UB theatre and dance announces 2025 fall season

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Join the University at Buffalo Department of Theatre and Dance for a season of dance, musicals and drama. Nationally recognized directors, choreographers and faculty work with emerging student talent to produce innovative original productions that entertain audiences and explore the human condition. The 2025-2026 season includes performances at the UB Center for the Arts and at the Katharine Cornell Theatre, both on UB North campus.

The UB Theatre and Dance 2025-2026 season is sponsored in part by Fox Run at Orchard Park, celebrating its seventh year in support of the department.

Left quad. Right quad. Lunge. A girls indoor soccer team warms up. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals.

The Wolves premiered in a production by The Playwright's Realm at The Duke on 42nd Street Theater in New York City in August 2016 under the direction of Lila Neugebauer.

Tickets for Zodiaque

Founded in 1974, Zodiaque Dance Company (ZDC) has UB’s eminent pre-professional dance company for more than five decades of innovative, creative performances.

In keeping with ZDC’s mission, the fall program features a diverse array of dance styles, including modern, contemporary, jazz, tap and hip hop. Works will be created by UB Dance faculty Melanie Aceto, Kurt Adametz and Chanon Judson and accomplished local choreographers Ariana Dixie and Rachael Leonard.

The program is punctuated by the contributions of former UB Dance faculty members Thomas Ralabate (Immediate Past Artistic Director of ZDC and Professor Emeritus) and 3rd year MFA candidate Rebekah Bono. The concert is under the co-direction of faculty members Kerry Ring and Michael Deeb Weaver, who will also set works. It showcases collaborations with our Theatre Design/Technology program.

*UB Dance Day is Sun. Oct. 26. All standard ticketing options are available plus a special $35 UB Dance Day Ticket, which includes:

• A participatory pre-show workshop for ages 14 and up in the UB Center for the Arts Dance Studios (Rooms B82 and B82 in the basement of building).  Arrive at noon in the hallway outside of the Dance Studios (rooms B82 and B84) for check-in.
• A dance class focusing on movement presented in the 2 p.m. performance and observation of company warm up, plus Q&A with UB dance majors. No specific dancewear required. Come dressed to move!
• Admission to "Zodiaque Dance Company 51st Season Fall Concert" 2 p.m. performance in the Drama Theatre.

A sidesplitting sendup of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!), in a time when water is worth its weight in gold.

Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, “Urinetown” is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, “Urinetown” is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, “Urinetown” catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

The musical "Urinetown" is rated PG-13, with parental guidance suggested for ages 13 and below due to some humorous adult innuendos and mild profanity.

Celebrating diversity in both genre and theme, Choreographers Showcase features new dance works created and performed by BA, BFA and MFA dance majors. Student choreographers receive close faculty mentorship and collaborate with student lighting designers, sound designers, costumers and technicians.

The third annual UBMT Sings concert will feature BFA Music Theatre students performing the songs of one of the greatest writing teams in Broadway history. Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty are, respectively, the lyricist and composer behind “Ragtime,” “Once on This Island,” “Seussical,” “Anastasia,” and more. These renowned collaborators have received theater, film and music’s highest honors—the Tony Award, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Olivier Awards, as well as nominations for two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes and four Grammys. Join our students as they explore the rich melodies and beautifully drawn characters that defined a generation of musical theatre.

Theatre student Andre White will host the 3rd Annual Shakespeare Showcase, featuring undergraduate student performers. The informal, fifty-five minute long program includes a compilation of monologues, sonnets and scenes from across Shakespeare's works.
