The entire UB community again expresses its deepest sympathies to Sebastian’s family and friends. We cannot state strongly enough that we have zero tolerance for hazing and we will aggressively pursue any suspected incidents of hazing.

Now that the Buffalo Police Department’s investigation has concluded, the University at Buffalo will conduct its own review of the circumstances, pursuant to UB’s Student Code of Conduct, that may have contributed to the tragic death of our student Sebastian Serafin-Bazan. During this review, fraternity Sigma Pi will remain on suspension until further notice.

The entire UB community again expresses its deepest sympathies to Sebastian’s family and friends. We cannot state strongly enough that we have zero tolerance for hazing and we will aggressively pursue any suspected incidents of hazing.

Since Sebastian’s death one year ago, UB launched and completed a comprehensive review of all Greek-letter, social, fraternal organizations at the university.

Our review resulted in extensive changes to Greek life at UB, with the goal of eliminating incidents of hazing and promoting greater accountability among students and Greek organizations.

While federal privacy law prohibits UB from commenting on disciplinary proceedings involving individual students, whenever there is a serious violation of UB’s Student Code of Conduct, such as hazing, students face suspension and the possibility of expulsion from the university.
