Statement from the University at Buffalo regarding the sentencing of John Kapoor

Release Date: January 23, 2020

The university is aware that John Kapoor was sentenced in federal court today.

The activities of Dr. Kapoor and other individuals convicted and sentenced in this case are in stark contrast to the values of UB and our School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

After a verdict was reached in last year’s federal trial, UB’s leadership and the SUNY Board of Trustees took decisive action to remove the Kapoor name from UB’s pharmacy building and to revoke the honorary doctor of science degree awarded in 2000 to Dr. Kapoor.

More information about the university’s actions can be found here: http://www.buffalo.edu/news/key-issues/john-kapoor.html.

The University at Buffalo and its pharmacy school are committed to combating the opiate addiction crisis every day in many proactive and innovative ways, involving researchers, clinicians, educators and students from across our university.
