BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The seventh season of UB on the Green, the University at Buffalo’s free outdoor performance series, will feature a bit of a twist: In addition to a major musical or arts performance, each night’s events will focus on a specific theme designed to welcome UB’s South Campus neighbors to the university and introduce them to different aspects of UB.

This summer’s UB on the Green events, presented by the Office of Community Relations in conjunction with various UB departments, will take place from 6-8 p.m. July 17, July 24 and July 31 on the Hayes Hall lawn on the South Campus. Parking is available in the NFTA Park and Ride and Townsend lots.

Spectators are encouraged to bring a picnic, lawn chairs and blankets. Light refreshments will be available for sale. UB on the Green is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event.

The series is sponsored by KeyBank and Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, which will provide free samples at each of the three events.

The series will open on July 17 with UB Arts and Culture Night, featuring the Waz-Davis Duo, an instrumental jam duo that performs a unique style of acid jazz and improv groove. The evening also will include arts and crafts stations, as well as displays and information about the Center for the Arts and UB’s Arts in Healthcare initiative.

The series will continue on July 24 with UB Athletics Night featuring an appearance by JJ Swing, a high-energy horn band based in Buffalo that performs the music of such classic bands as Chicago; Earth, Wind & Fire; Steely Dan; Brian Setzer; and Blood, Sweat & Tears, to name a few. Co-sponsored by the Division of Athletics, the evening will include information on the upcoming 2013 UB fall sports season, student-athlete autograph sessions, interactive sports activities hosted by UB student-athletes, an appearance by Victor E. Bull and other entertainment.

The concluding event on July 31 — the UB Care Fair — will feature a performance by the Niagara Falls-based Will Holton Band, which describes itself as “a melting pot of fusion, soul, R&B, bebop and gospel.” Co-sponsored by the Academic Health Center, Office of Interprofessional Education and the Teaching & Learning Center, the event also will include representatives from more than 30 organizations providing free health screenings, nutritional information and interactive activities.
