    Edna Romanell has made two gifts with a combined value of nearly $1.5 million to the University at Buffalo. With the two gifts,she has continued the legacy begun by her late husband, Patrick Romanell, a philosopher and author of several books on critical naturalism.
  • Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund Gives $50,000 for Study of Successful Leaders in High-Poverty Schools

    There are leaders to be found, working at schools in the poorest communities, who have helped students succeed amid the challenges that surround them. Stephen L. Jacobson, Ph.D., of the University at Buffalo Graduate School of Education (GSE), with the support of the Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund, hopes to identify such leaders and learn from their strategies, their efforts and their victories.
  • UB Shares in Largest Award in History of Oishei Foundation

    The John R. Oishei Foundation today announced grants totaling $9 million to the three partners in the Buffalo Life Sciences Complex. The University at Buffalo, which previously received $1,542,000 for the recruitment, salaries and research of top-level scientists at the UB Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics, will receive an additional $2 million for those purposes. Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute each will receive $3.5 million for buildings being constructed as part of the complex.

    The undergraduate mezzanine in the new Alfiero Center to be built at the University at Buffalo School of Management will be named in honor of MarySue French, of Strongsville, Ohio, who has made a gift of $75,000 to the school.
  • $1.5 Million Grant to Establish UB Center for Research in Cardiovascular Medicine

    The John R. Oishei Foundation has awarded $1.5 million to the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to establish a highly interactive, multidisciplinary Center for Research in Cardiovascular Medicine that will lead to better understanding of the mechanisms responsible for sudden cardiac death (SCD) in ischemic heart disease.
