Gina Bronkie Hammond, who received a master's degree in computer science and engineering (CSE) from the University at Buffalo in 1973, has given a generous gift of $150,000 to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in support of a new high-tech flagship engineering building.

A major gift from Frederick J. Kogut, who earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University at Buffalo in 1960 and 1965, respectively, will help promote rural development in third world countries, especially on the African continent, as well as helping rural communities in upstate New York.

In recognition of the support that Edmond J. Gicewicz and his wife, Connie, have provided to the University at Buffalo's athletics program, the UB Athletics Hall of Fame will be renamed the Dr. and Mrs. Edmond J. Gicewicz Family UB Athletics Hall of Fame.

Brothers Vinod K. Rustgi, M.D., and Anil K. Rustgi, M.D., along with their mother, Kamla Rustgi, are honoring their father's memory by endowing the Moti Lal Rustgi Professorship in the Department of Physics in the University at Buffalo's College of Arts and Sciences.

A University at Buffalo program that exemplifies the university's commitment to creating a pipeline to public higher education for kindergarten through high school students has expanded from one to two Buffalo schools, thanks to a $485,000 grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation.

Eight hundred children and their parents are scheduled to fill dental clinics in the School of Dental Medicine at the University at Buffalo and the Pediatric Dental Clinic at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo on Feb. 2 to take part in the fifth annual Give Kids a Smile Day.

The Cameron Baird Foundation has given a $20,000 grant to WBFO 88.7 FM, the National Public Radio affiliate operated by the University at Buffalo, to be used for installing the new technology of broadcasting in digital format, known as HD Radio.

Schering-Plough has provided $125,000 to the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to fund the training of a graduate fellow in the school's Pharmaceutics Program. The gift, which will come in $25,000 increments over five years, will support a stipend, tuition and research funding for the student over a five-year period.

A computerized patient simulator valued at $30,000 and designed to improve the training of medical students has been donated to the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences by Margaret W. Paroski, M.D., and her husband, Peter Martin, Sr.
