Novelist, literary critic and environmental activist Margaret Atwood, author of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which inspired the television series of the same name, will deliver the March 9 “Humanities to the Rescue” keynote address.
Cristanne Miller, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Edward H. Butler Professor of English at UB, has received the MLA’s biennial Prize for a Scholarly Edition for her book, “Emily Dickinson’s Poems: As She Preserved Them.”
Former National Security Advisor Susan E. Rice will speak at UB on Feb. 28 as the featured speaker in UB’s 42nd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration event, which is part of the university’s Distinguished Speakers Series.

The University at Buffalo Music Library has received funding from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) to preserve more than 600 musical works performed at the university from 1964-80.
Infants raised in homes where they hear a single language, but spoken with different accents, recognize words dramatically differently at about 12 months of age than their age-matched peers exposed to little variation in accent, according to a recent UB study.
