  • "Miss Saigon" to be performed in CFA Oct. 29, 30

    The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will present "Miss Saigon" at 8 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 7 p.m. on Oct. 30 in the Mainstage Theatre located in the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus. Tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Aug. 24. The performances are sponsored by GEICO. Media sponsor is WBEN-AM.

    The new season of MTV2's video game and music program, "Video Mods" is, in part, the result of an innovative partnership between IBC Digital, the Buffalo company that produces the "mods" and the University at Buffalo's supercomputing center.

  • Rock Clusters: UB Supercomputers Named for Rock 'N' Roll Legends

    It's only fitting that the world's greatest rock 'n' roll group has a supercomputer named after it. "U2" has been selected by the University at Buffalo's Center for Computational Research (CCR) as the name of its newest and most powerful supercomputer, a 1,668-processor Dell high-performance cluster that will be used to support university research ranging from genomics, to groundwater modeling to the monitoring of human-rights abuses.

  • Never Underestimate the Power of Narrative -- the Emerging Portrait of a Dastardly America Could Cost Us Dearly

    History is replete with "black legends," conflations of truth, myth and bad press that have caused individuals, families, and whole nations to have what English poet and dramatist John Dryden called "a name to all succeeding ages curst." The term "Black Legend" originated as a reference to the world-wide loathing of Spain during its conquest of the New World, but an expert in the production of such cultural narratives says history, in one sense, may be repeating itself.

  • Warhol Foundation Grant to UB Art Galleries to Support Scholarship, International Appreciation of Chinese Visual Arts

    A $75,000 grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. to the University at Buffalo Art Galleries will help produce a scholarly catalogue to accompany "The Wall: Reshaping Contemporary Chinese Art," the largest exhibition of contemporary Chinese art ever to travel beyond that country's borders.
  • 26 Honored as Outstanding Seniors in UB College of Arts and Sciences

    Twenty-six students were honored for being the outstanding graduating senior in departments within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo's 159th general commencement ceremony held on May 15.
