  • UB Dioxin Expert Served on Institute of Medicine Panel Reviewing Health Effects in Veterans Exposed to Agent Orange

    A University at Buffalo expert on dioxin toxicology has just completed his service on the National Academies Institute of Medicine panel on Veterans and Agent Orange. Last week, the panel -- the Committee to Review the Health Effects in Vietnam Veterans of Exposure to Herbicides -- released its 2010 report.

  • UB Department of Theatre and Dance to present Hedda Gabler Oct. 26-30

    The University at Buffalo Department of Theatre and Dance will present Henrik Ibsen's masterpiece Hedda Gabler from Wednesday, Oct. 26 through Sunday, Oct. 30. Performance times are Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre in the UB Center for the Arts, North Campus.

That's the message from two surgeons -- and avid Twitter fans -- in the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, who recently co-authored "Making Social Media Work for Surgeons and Patients," an article published in the Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons.

    Scientists at the University at Buffalo have received $1.3 million from the National Institute of Mental Health to test how tiny, magnetic particles can be used to remotely control neurons in the brains of mice. If the work is successful, the research team will have given neuroscientists a powerful, new tool: a non-invasive technique for triggering activity deep inside the brain.
