    The final slate of presenting companies has been chosen for the 2012 Venture Forum, a collaboration between the Bright Buffalo Niagara Forum and the Center for Economic Growth's (CEG) SmartStart UNYTECH Forum. A total of 32 high-growth early stage companies will be featured, including 12 from Buffalo and three from Ontario, Canada. The 2012 Venture Forum will be held May 16-17 in Buffalo.

    Danielle Johnson, academic advisor in the Daniel Ackers Scholars Program in the University at Buffalo Cora P. Maloney College, has received the first annual Lavender Star Award for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered and Queer Leadership at UB from the Buffalo Center Chapter of United University Professionals (UUP) at UB and its Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered and Queer (LGBTQ) Committee.

    This year, UB TCIE is celebrating its 25th year of improving the local economy by connecting companies with UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences resources. Officially launched in 1987 in a storage room in Bell Hall on the North Campus as The Center for Industrial Effectiveness, UB TCIE is now housed at the Baird Research Park and serves businesses of all types and sizes through technical engineering, consulting and training.

    As part of their "Joining Forces" initiative, Michelle Obama and Jill Biden met with nurse leaders from 150 nursing organizations and 450 nursing schools who signed a pledge to educate current and future nurses to treat U.S. soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and depression, as well as other conditions caused by the physical and/or mental effects of battle.
