    The University at Buffalo Bulls have waited 29 years and one extra week to see their dreams of returning to Division I-A football realized. The Bulls begin their first Division I-A campaign since 1970 by hosting their inaugural game in the Mid-American Conference against the University of Akron on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. in the newly-expanded UB Stadium.

    A study by University at Buffalo reproductive epidemiologists has found no association between eating DDE-contaminated sport fish from Lake Ontario and the length of lactation in nursing mothers.
  • UB Geographer Maps Out Buffalo Neighborhoods

    Tucked away on an upper floor of the University at Buffalo's Undergraduate Library in the Science and Engineering Library (SEL) Map Collection room, geographer Ernest L. Woodson helps people find links and clues to the past that often only old maps can reveal. Woodson, an associate librarian in the SEL, is in charge of the University Libraries Map Collection, which he began developing in 1974 when it was made up of only 50,000 maps. Today, the prized collection includes more than 350,000 maps and aerial photos.

    Frank D'Arrigo, assistant vice provost and director of undergraduate information services at the University at Buffalo, has been named first runner-up for "Best Web Site Solution" in the national 1999 Visual FoxPro Excellence Awards contest for a site he designed that ultimately could improve student retention at UB.

  • UB Scientists Find Breast-Cancer Risk May Be Influenced By Gene That Regulates Serum Triglycerides

    University at Buffalo researchers have shown for the first time that a variant of the apolipoprotein E (apoE) gene, known as apoE 4, may increase the risk of breast cancer by inhibiting the elimination of serum triglycerides from the bloodstream.
