  • Medication Combined with Behavior Therapy Works Best for ADHD Children, Study Finds

    A new University at Buffalo study of treatments for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has found that combining behavior modification therapy with medication is the most effective way to improve the behavior of many ADHD children. When the two are combined, the study showed, the amount of medication required to achieve the same results as use of medication alone can be reduced by two-thirds.
  • UB Volunteer, Donor Inducted into Astronaut Hall of Fame

    Spacewalker Joseph P. Allen, IV, a friend, advisor and donor to the University at Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), was inducted into the Astronaut Hall of Fame on April 30. Allen is a member of, and once chaired, the SEAS Dean's Advisory Council.
  • Physicists Detect the Undetectable: "Baby" Solitary Waves

    When University at Buffalo theorist Surajit Sen published his prediction that solitary waves, tight bundles of energy that travel without dispersing, could break into smaller, "baby" or secondary solitary waves, experts in the field acclaimed it as a fine piece of work. They also felt that these waves might never be seen experimentally. But in a paper published this week in Physical Review Letters, Sen and his co-authors report that they have done just that.

    A memorial scientific conference for the late Om P. Bahl, University at Buffalo professor of biological sciences who conducted the fundamental research that led to the development of the home pregnancy test, will be held from 1-4:30 p.m. May 28 in the Center for the Arts screening room on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.
