  • Windows That Block Heat Only On Hot Days: New Research Brings Us Closer

    New materials science research from the University at Buffalo could hasten the creation of "smart" windows that reflect heat from the sun on hot summer days but let in the heat in colder weather. The findings concern a unique class of synthetic chemical compounds that are transparent to infrared light at lower temperatures, but undergo a phase transition to begin reflecting infrared when they heat up past a certain point. An article detailing some of these discoveries appears today (April 7) on the cover of the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters.

    The Center for the Arts Video Production group at the University at Buffalo has won a 2011 New York Emmy Award. The award was received in the Informational/Instructional: Feature/Segment category at the 54th Annual New York Emmy Awards presentation on April 3 in New York City.

    University at Buffalo Law School Dean Makau Mutua, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Floyd H. and Hilda L. Hurst Faculty Scholar, was elected vice president of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) March 26. The ASIL is the most prestigious and largest organization of international lawyers in the world.
  • UB Police Arrest Former Student in Assault in South Campus Dormitory

    A 22-year-old former university student was arrested by University at Buffalo Police Tuesday afternoon and charged with three crimes -- including third-degree assault -- for the alleged unprovoked attack on a UB student in the lobby of Goodyear Residence Hall early Sunday morning.

    Ann Burstein Cohen, associate professor of accounting in the University at Buffalo School of Management, will receive the Dr. Emanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award from the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) on May 19 at the NYSSCPA's 114th Annual Election Meeting and Dinner in New York City.
