Rohini Srihari can speak to the media about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning for analyzing language in spoken conversation and text. This includes intelligent virtual assistants like Alexa and Siri, social bots, technologies for document analysis, and issues tied to data mining, the Internet and social media.

Srihari’s research and teaching covers a range of topics relating to information retrieval and natural language processing, including conversational AI and AI for social good.

Her interests include developing social bots capable of engaging in empathetic, interesting and purposeful conversations. She supervised Team Proto, an interdisciplinary group of students who competed and won the bronze prize in the Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge 4.

Srihari has also partnered on projects that investigate disinformation, with the goal of improving digital literacy.

Additionally, she has worked extensively with the U.S. government in developing innovative multilingual text mining solutions. She also founded and directed technology startups focusing on “big data” analytics solutions for various markets.
