Privacy law and technology law, including cybersecurity, data breaches, AI-manipulated content, HIPPA and other data protection laws
Karla Lellis is privacy law expert whose specialty is comparative law and how the U.S., Brazil and European Union define and evaluate harms in cybersecurity disputes, specifically how monetary, psychological and future damages are awarded.
She can speak to the media about how courts and regulators respond to artificial intelligence-driven risks such as deepfakes and voice cloning. This can include injunctions, accelerated takedowns, provenance requirements, collective redress and more. Her work helps policymakers, businesses, and the public understand how legal systems worldwide address privacy harms, and how courts respond to AI-driven risks that threaten trust in digital systems.
She can also speak to the media about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the European Union law that governs how personal data of EU citizens is collected, processed and stored; the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA); Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD), which is Brazil's general privacy protection law; and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), among other topics.
Lellis can respond to interview requests in English and Portuguese.
