Portrait of Bianca Weinstock-Guttman.

A leading international neuroscientist, Bianca Weinstock-Guttman can speak to the news media about any aspect of multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis and treatment in children and adults. She can discuss medications that slow progression of the disease, as well as her own investigations into how diet, age, gender and race impact MS. Her research has determined that a proinflammatory diet in adolescents can increase risk for disease onset.

Weinstock-Guttman can also talk about how MS affects cognition and how disability is reflected in brain imaging studies. Her studies on identifying how the disease impacts Black Americans led to a paradigm shift in patient care. She can also talk about health disparities with regard to MS. A prolific researcher, she is in the top 1% of neuroscientists worldwide in terms of productivity.

The executive director of the New York State MS Directory, Weinstock-Guttman also directs the Jacobs MS Center for Treatment and Research and the Jacobs Pediatric MS Center, both at UB. She is a clinician with UBMD Neurology.
