Pediatric intensive care, pediatric emergency resuscitation, pediatric basic and advanced life support, simulation-based training, and educating health care professionals in these skills.
Joyner is an expert in pediatric intensive care and in pediatric basic and advanced life support. He co-chaired the international 2025 Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care released by the American Heart Association and American Academy of Pediatrics.
Joyner is also an expert in simulation-based training, which utilizes technology and team-based learning to better prepare providers for rare, high-stakes situations, especially in settings where resources are limited. He is a leader in developing novel simulation strategies using high-fidelity technology, which provides as close to real-life clinical experiences as possible, to enhance medical training. This work aims to improve the training and confidence of health care providers who have limited exposure to critically ill pediatric patients.
