Psychiatric genetics of autism and ADHD across multiethnic populations; ancestral genetics; community-based participatory research; immigrant health.
Williams can talk to the media about his research on the genetics and genomics of autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in African Americans and South Asian populations. He can discuss the importance of uncovering rare genetic variations and risk factors in this population that often go unnoticed in studies primarily focused on European populations.
An advocate for making science a more equitable environment, both for underrepresented students and for the larger community in general, Williams can discuss his efforts to increase community engagement on biomedical research topics so that personal health decisions are based on knowledge, not misinformation. He is a director of UB’s Community Health Speaks, which seeks to bridge the divide between the scientific community and those from historically marginalized communities.
