Optional Practical Training (OPT)

Optional Practical Training is an F-1 student benefit that allows you to work off-campus in a job related to your major. It is meant to supplement your academic experience with practical experience.

The Master of Science in Sustainable Transportation and Logistics program is STEM program; enrolled students are elgible for the 24-month STEM extension.

To be eligible for Optional Practical Training, you must document that:

  • you are currently in valid F‑1 status  AND
  • you have been a full‑time student for at least one full academic year (two semesters) AND
  • you will complete a degree in the near future

Degree conferral dates are June 1, February 1, August 31. You cannot apply for Post-Completion OPT more than 90 days before your degree conferral date. Please check the ISS website on Post-Completion OPT for more information. 

Students who are interested in applying for OPT must get a letter from their Academic Advisor that will be uploaded with their OPT application to ISS. Please submit the form below in order to request this letter. The letter will be emailed to the student within 7-days of submitting the request.
