“Following the immediate HIV and AIDS outbreak in the early 1980s, it became clearer than ever that there was a real need for global collaboration in biomedical research.” Robert Gallo, Co-discoverer of HIV as the cause of AIDS

The GVN collaboration is facilitated through the UB Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences, an international hub for innovation that brings together scientific disciplines in a nontraditional approach. The Center uses education, training and research to promote novel discovery, maximize technology and foster translation. The Center works with international partners in addressing global health challenges and in recognizing the important connections between health and sustainable economic development. The center goals are to develop a global biomedical sciences research enterprise at UB, integrating health profession schools in the Academic Health Center with other decanal units, existing centers, institutes, Communities of Excellence and across the SUNY system and develop a sustainable business model for the Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences that complements other research programs and builds synergies, which can help the university attract more funding.

The UB GVN Center of Excellence in built on a collaboration between the UB HIV Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory and the Department of Cancer Genetics at Roswell Park Cancer Institiute. Read more...https://www.buffalo.edu/ubnow/stories/2017/03/HIV-discoverer-Gallo-visits-UB.html.
