Estimated Cost of Attendance

Gloved hands hold vials of glowing liquid in a range of colors.

As a public school in the SUNY system, the University at Buffalo has a worldwide reputation for excellence, but costs much less than private schools. Cost of attendance at UB varies depending on a number of factors and tuition is subject to change.

Estimated Domestic Student Costs

  • The Office of Student Accounts website has the most up-to-date tuition information for graduate and professional students.
    • Online tuition/fee rates are exclusive to online academic programs that have been previously approved by the Provost's Office and registered by the New York State Education Department. If you are not enrolled in one of the approved online academic programs, you are not eligible for a Comprehensive Fee Waiver.
  • Current housing rates are available on the Campus Living website.
  • The Financial Aid office has developed a Cost of Attendance (COA) tool to assist students with budget management while earning a degree. The COA reflects typical expense patterns of UB students.
  • Admitted graduate and professional students will be deemed out-of-state residents for tuition purposes until supporting documentation is provided to verify New York State (NYS) residency. Additional information can be found on the Verifying New York State Residency page.

Estimated International Student Costs

The following financial information shows the minimum costs that will be indicated on your I-20/DS-2019 Certificate of Visa Eligibility. Actual costs will vary depending on degree, program and personal spending. Visit the Office of Student Accounts for more information.

Please note the following in your personal budget plan:

  • Tuition and fees reflect an estimated cost of full-time enrollment. The most up-to-date estimated cost information will be published on the Student Accounts website.
  • Tuition is set by the State University of New York; it is subject to change without notice.
  • Fees include the applicable comprehensive and other fees.
  • Living expenses include the estimated expenses for one year of food, housing, books and supplies, transportation, personal costs, the international student fee, and health insurance.
