Our various schools focus on aligning their research and expertise in ways that can be of service to our surrounding communities. Here you can explore the many programs and initiatives that our schools are undertaking and highlighting, ranging from health and wellness to the arts and humanities.

  • College of Arts and Sciences

    The College of Arts and Sciences encourages students to take advantage of the life-changing opportunities happening around them every day by way of unique, hands-on experiences. Through Experiential Learning, students grow into an active global citizen focused on problem-solving, creative innovation and collaborative civic engagement. 

  • Graduate School of Education

    The Graduate School of Education is committed to engaging meaningfully with the schools and communities they serve. GSE is dedicated to building and sustaining partnerships that allow for the mutual exchange of ideas, and working collaboratively to conduct research that solves real problems and informs policy for the public good.

  • Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Science

    Students and faculty in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences participate in a wide variety of outreach efforts in the community that foster lifelong learning and promote healthy lifestyles.

  • School of Architecture and Planning

    The School of Architecture and Planning's research endeavors engage a broad range of issues related to our built environment and its social, political and environmental contexts. From the studio to the community, their faculty and students engage diverse academic and professional partnerships to produce innovative scholarship and design-based research. 

  • School of Dental Medicine

    Various School of Dental Medicine groups collaborate to provide donated dental services locally, nationally and internationally. Each group addresses a unique underserved population. The innovative and truly global nature of their activities serves to alleviate human suffering and improve oral health and quality of life.

  • School of Engineering and Applied Sciences

    The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences aims to engage with the community in Buffalo and our region through a wide variety of programs and interests. Among these are K-12 educational activities, as well continuing education programs for engineers working in the field. We have many industry partnerships to address workforce needs, as well as targeted research and development projects to address specific business problems.

  • School of Law

    Student lawyers work under the supervision of skilled faculty to engage in practical legal thinking and ethical practice through client representation, policy development and effective problem-solving work in experiential settings.

  • School of Management

    The School of Management engages in a wide variety of public service activities that benefit the Western New York region and beyond.

  • School of Nursing

    UB School of Nursing partners with numerous community healthcare organizations to provide the best clinical experiences for our students.  Their clinical partners include a major cancer center, several comprehensive healthcare providers, a hospice center, and a veteran's medical center.  Additionally, their students have learning opportunities in many community and home care settings.

  • School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

    The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences hosts student wellness clinics and supports student direct career mentorship in local underserved communities

  • School of Public Health and Health Professions

    The School of Public Health and Health Professions is active not only within the Western New York community, but also throughout the State of New York and the nation. It is our mission to improve the health of populations, communities and individuals from regionally to globally.

  • School of Social Work

    The School of Social Work provides a collection of community-centric resources — from podcasts and conference videos to curricular modules and assessment tools — that will help advance social work education, practice and research.
