  • Yingjie Hu.

How can AI help communities predict and prepare for natural hazards?

Geospatial AI is helping communities better understand and respond to natural hazards. Research integrates satellite imagery, weather and environmental data, AI methods and expert knowledge to predict how hazards such as wildfires evolve across space and time. By identifying key driving factors and improving risk prediction, this work can support informed decisions, strengthen resilience and help protect communities.

  • Kenny Joseph in front of social imagery.

How can generative AI help build equitable socio-technical systems?

Research uses computational methods and generative AI to examine how gender, race, political framing, polarization and social relationships evolve across global radio broadcasts, political podcasts and online conversations. The work also identifies patterns in online social support, informing responsible generative AI use in mental-health discussions and measures of connection in equitable digital environments.

  • Praveen Arany in front of low dose red light therapy.

How can hidden connections between decisions lead to better solutions?

Photobiomodulation research examines how low-dose light triggers non-thermal processes that activate growth factors and support tissue repair. By linking molecular mechanisms with dosimetry that accounts for light absorption and scattering, this work aims to make red-light therapy more reproducible. Collaboration can advance precise dosing, clinical translation and treatments for pain, inflammation and wound healing.
