In order to be considered for transfer admission to UB, we recommend that students present a strong record of college study, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. It should be noted, however, that requirements may vary depending on academic program.
Please note that some departments have supplemental admissions criteria, higher GPA requirements, departmental application deadlines and limited capacity.
Which credentials are considered?
- If you’ve completed more than 24 college credit hours at the time you apply, we review your previous college academic record.
- If you’ve completed fewer than 24 college credit hours at the time you apply, we will review your high school transcript in addition to your previous college academic record.

Electronic versions of your transcripts are strongly recommended. A separate official transcript must be received from each institution you previously attended.
Final Transcripts
If you currently have courses in progress, please ask the registrar of your college to send a final official transcript directly to the Office of Admissions as soon as the term is completed. Be sure that any degree received is noted on the transcript. Your acceptance is provisional until final records are received.
UB accepts all college-level credits from regionally accredited two- and four-year degree-granting institutions. You can check how your courses match UB courses and requirements on TAURUS, UB’s course articulation website.
UB also grants credit for a number of alternative forms of credit. These alternative forms of credit are not considered at the time of admission. They are added to a student’s record after starting courses at UB. You must submit an official score report to have your alternative credit evaluated.
We calculate an entry-level GPA for the purpose of determining admission to UB. This calculation includes all coursework attempted, using the UB grading system outlined on the chart below.

Please be aware that if you are filing for any type of state or federal aid, receipt of a final high school transcript or GED will be required before any funds can be disbursed to you.

Students transferring to UB for the spring semester who have already filed the FAFSA to receive financial aid for the fall semester at their current school should contact the Federal Processing Center to update the school information listed on the FAFSA.
To update your FAFSA, you will need to add “State University of New York at Buffalo” for the school name. UB’s federal school code is 002837. You can make updates through the FAFSA website or by telephone at 800-433-3243.
Dual admission programs ensure a smooth transfer to UB by providing accurate information about meeting UB’s major requirements with transfer courses. If you are a student enrolled in a UB dual admission program at one of the community colleges below, your transcripts will be sent to UB on your behalf. You will not submit a UB application when you transfer. Instead, you will receive an Intent to Enroll (ITE) form in the semester prior to your transfer. When your completed ITE form is received by UB, you will receive notice of how to proceed with registration and orientation. To sign up for dual admission, contact the admissions office at any of these participating colleges:

Applicants who were previously enrolled in EOP or a similar program (e.g., HEOP, SEEK, College Discovery) are eligible for transfer admission.
In order to receive consideration for transfer admission to the University at Buffalo, students must present a strong record of college study, earning a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. However, requirements may vary depending on academic program.
Verification of previous participation in an EOP-type program from each school attended is required. Applicants from a CUNY campus will be considered for EOP if they were eligible for such a program but were not selected through the lottery system.
The University at Buffalo TrACE program provides eligible transfer students with support to finish their degree on time, including a Cost of Attendance Award and a Textbook Stipend, comprehensive personalized advisement, academic support and career development.
