Have you recently read a good book? Or watched a great movie? The University Libraries want to know.

The Libraries are updating the titles in their 48 Good Books and 48 Good Films projects, and are calling on UB students, faculty and staff to recommend their favorite works.

Suggested titles should embody the themes of humanity, justice, environment, innovation and health. Submissions will be accepted until Thursday, March 31 at library.buffalo.edu/48goodbooks/recommend.

“Through this list of unrequired reading and viewing, we hope to connect the dots between academia and life for students, and inspire intellectual growth and a habit of life-long learning,” says Lori Widzinski, head of multimedia collections and services in the University Libraries.

Previous titles to grace the lists include J.M. Coetzee's award-winning classic novel, "Waiting for the Barbarians," and the films, “12 Angry Men,” “Wall-E,” and “The Social Network.”

With 48 titles, the Libraries aim to provide students with one book and film per month for the four years of their college careers.

The program was popular in the early days of UB, and was resurrected in 2011 by the Libraries and Undergraduate Academies.

Faculty and librarians will vote to decide the final list.
