Kids 5-11 must show proof of vaccination for UB games

UB will now require children ages 5 to 11 have proof they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend athletic events in Alumni Arena.

The university has had the vaccination policy in place for spectators age 12 and older. With the two-dose Pfizer vaccine now authorized by the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use for children ages 5 through 11, the university has extended the vaccination policy for this age group.

The updated policy, which took effect Jan. 1, requires children 5 through 11 to have at least the first dose of the vaccine to attend all athletic events at UB. That includes men’s and women’s basketball, as well as swimming, diving and wrestling.

A vaccination card, a photo of a vaccination card, an Excelsior Pass or a digital vaccine card are all acceptable forms of proof. Attendees should be prepared to show photo ID.

UB also requires that masks be worn at all times while inside Alumni Arena.

By Feb. 1, children 5 through 11 who want to attend games must provide proof at the door they have completed their vaccination series.

Requiring proof of vaccination for UB spectators 5 and older is the latest step in a series of multi-layered health and safety protocols instituted across UB’s three campuses this fall, including indoor masking, COVID testing and mandatory student vaccinations.
