‘Sofia’ video game exhibit to launch at Explore & More museum

A video game version of “Sofia Learns About Research,” the children’s activity and coloring book that presents research in a non-threatening way, is coming to downtown Buffalo’s Explore & More — The Ralph C. Wilson Children's Museum. The exhibit is set to open Sept. 23.

UB’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) partnered with Explore & More to create an exhibit that showcased “Sofia” and allowed for children to perform their own research in a safe environment, while also getting a taste of what real research looks like. The game lets the player create his or her own research ranger superhero avatar to help Sofia find out what is causing her asthma so it can be treated.

Free copies of the original “Sofia” activity book, which was developed by a multidisciplinary UB CTSI team, will be available at the front desk. Essential workers get one free admission to the museum through the end of September.

The video game exhibit is the latest development in the journey of “Sofia.” Most recently, the book was adapted for an interactive, web-based version on the CTSI website.
