Department of Music presents faculty recitals

UB faculty will be in the spotlight this semester as the Department of Music presents a variety of faculty recitals.

The lineup:

  • Tiffany Du Mouchelle, soprano: 3 p.m., Feb. 2, Baird Recital Hall, 250 Baird Hall, North Campus. Du Mouchelle, director of vocal performance and opera studio, and percussionist Stephen Solook — performing as the Aurora Borealis Duo — will perform a concert of premieres by Carolyn Chen, Stephen Lewis and Ignacio Baca Lobera, as well as solo works by Luciano Berio and James Tenney.
  • Tom Kolor, percussion: 2/28, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 28, Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall, North Campus. Kolor, associate professor of music, will perform an Italian-themed program that includes works by Donatoni, Scelsi and Sciarrino.
  • Michael Tumiel, clarinet: 3 p.m., March 1, Baird Recital Hall. Tumiel, adjunct instructor, will perform a program that features Mario Davidovsky’s Synchronisms No. 12, Donald Martino’s A set for clarinet, Louis Spohr’s Sechs deutsche Lieder and Béla Bartók’s Contrasts.
  • Sungmin Shin, guitar. 3/9, 7:30 p.m., March 9, Lippes Concert Hall. Shin, adjunct instructor, will join the Rochester-based quintet fivebyfive for the Buffalo premiere of newly composed works by Edie Hill, Jung Sun Kang, Andrea Mazzariello and Jonathan Russell. This commission was made possible in collaboration with the Memorial Art Gallery and supported by New Music USA, the Eastman/ArtistS​hare New Artist Program and the Decentralizatio​n Regrant Program of New York State.

Tickets for the four recitals are available through a variety of outlets at the following pricing structure:

UB faculty, staff, alumni, seniors and non-UB students

$10 plus $2.18 fee and minimal credit card charge at eventbrite.

$14 in person at the Center for the Arts (noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday)

$17 in person at the door (one hour before concert time)

General public

$15 plus $2.18 fee and minimal credit card charge at eventbrite.

$19 in person at the Center for the Arts (noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday)

$22 in person at the door (one hour before concert time)

UB students are admitted free with ID.
