Faculty and staff interested in the use of immersive environments in education are invited to an open networking event on Oct. 4 sponsored by a newPprofessional Community of Practice.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in 310 Silverman Library, North Campus

A vendor showcase will be held in 305 Silverman Library.

The new AR-VR-MR Community of Practice, jointly organized by the Center for Educational Innovation and the University Libraries, provides an opportunity for staff and faculty at all levels of experience and interest to come together and share ideas, network with colleagues, meet with vendors and look at the possibilities of shaping the use and support of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) at UB.

A listserv called AR-VR-MR-L and a workplace group have been created to facilitate interaction.

At the Oct. 4 event, attendees are urged to share their work, introduce hardware and software, and advise colleagues who want to get started. Three people will give brief talks about how they’ve developed their projects and incorporated them into their teaching. A networking session will follow, and participants can experiment with AR-VR equipment provided by several vendors.
