Leaders from the region’s top health systems, insurers, physician groups and community health organizations will come together on Oct. 11 for an all-day forum to discuss the future of health care.

The event, starting at 8 a.m. at Templeton Landing in Buffalo, will be hosted by the School of Management and the Healthcare Executive Forum, the local chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

The forum, “Health Care in 2020 and Beyond,” will address increasing pharmaceutical costs, the evolution of electronic medical records, and uncertainty about predominant payer models, among other challenges health care leaders face regionally and nationally as we approach the coming decade.

Three keynote speakers will present in the morning. Mark A. Sullivan, president and CEO of Catholic Health System, will discuss “Catholic Health in the Coming Decade,” followed by Jody Lomeo, president and CEO of Kaleida Health and Great Lakes Health System of WNY, who will deliver “How Kaleida Health is Facing the Future of Health Care.” Then, Candace Johnson, president and CEO of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, will offer insights on “The Future of Cancer Care.”

Following the keynotes, Larry Zielinski, executive in residence for health care administration in the School of Management, will moderate four panel discussions, each exploring the industry from a different perspective. Zielinski previously spent 25 years in the industry, including terms as president of two health care organizations.

The panels, and the organizations that will be represented on them, are:

• “Top Issues in National Health Care for 2020” with Navigant Consulting - Value Transformation.
• “Addressing Increasing Pharmaceutical Costs” with Buffalo Medical Group, Independent Health, and the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
• “Medicare for All and its Many Iterations” with HealthNow New York, Navigant Consulting - Value Transformation, and the School of Management.
• “Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Phase Two: Is Interoperability Possible?” with emids, Kaleida Health/UBMD, Navigant Consulting - Value Transformation, and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The event will include breakfast and lunch, and conclude with a networking reception from 5-6 p.m. Cost for attendance is $125; discounted rate for ACHE members and UB School of Management Alumni is $100, and students pay $25. Advance registration is required.
