UB, unions reach accord on downtown parking

Full and part-time UB faculty and staff represented by UUP and CSEA, or who are paid through the UB Foundation or Research Foundation, and are now working, or will be working, in the new Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences building on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus can receive a free NFTA transit pass under the provisions of a new memorandum of agreement between UB and the unions.

The agreement covers all full-time and part-time employees whose primary worksite is being moved to the Jacobs School building on the BNMC, or other UB sites like the Clinical and Translational Research Center and UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences; it does not apply to faculty members who currently have a hospital appointment and a designated parking spot on the BNMC.

Employees who opt to receive a Metro Pass — which is good for fare-free travel on all NFTA buses and the subway during the NFTA’s regular hours of operation — may continue to park on the South Campus and then take the subway downtown, union representatives say.

Parking passes in downtown ramps and lots are available on a first-come, first served basis. UB employees will be provided the opportunity to purchase passes to the new Ellicott-Goodrich parking facility, the Michigan-Goodrich parking facility or the Gallagher Ramp, located across from the former Women and Children’s Hospital.

Each employee is provided an allowance of $65 a month for parking. Newly hired employees are not eligible for this offering.
