UB female faculty and staff members looking for some support in maintaining an exercise program are being recruited for a UB study being conducted with the Ken-Ton YMCA.

Eligible participants — women who are ages 18-64 and overweight — will receive a free three-month membership to the Ken-Ton YMCA, which includes access to all fitness classes and amenities. Those who complete the study also will receive $50.

Some participants will be randomly selected to take part in a special exercise program for women with limited exercise experience.

The study is being led by Lucia Leone, assistant professor in the Department of Community Health and Health Behavior, School of Public Health and Health Professions. Its goal is to determine the best ways to help women who are overweight and inactive get more exercise by trying to make exercise more enjoyable with less focus on weight or weight loss.

Those interested in participating can contact researchers at 716-427-4942, sphhp-exercise-study@buffalo.edu or by taking an online eligibility screening.
