The committee leading the search for a new dean for the School of Dental Medicine is holding listening sessions to discuss campus interests and priorities for the search.

Byron J. Koekkoek, a retired professor of modern languages and linguistics, died Nov. 28 in Beechwood Home. He was 91.

Edwin E. Gordon, an internationally recognized scholar of the psychology of music who researched and defined his world-famous music learning theory while serving as director of music education at UB, died Dec. 4 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was 88.

George R. Levine, a Fulbright scholar and highly respected UB English professor died Dec. 16 in Buffalo General Hospital following a brief illness. He was 86.

“Excelsior,” meaning “ever upward,” is New York State’s official motto and upward-looking UB Law School seniors are now eligible for the governor’s Excelsior Service Fellowship Program, which aims to bring high-achieving new graduates into public service.
