Choreographers to present showcase

The Department of Theatre & Dance will present Emerging Choreographers Showcase, a dance concert of new works by advanced-level UB student choreographers,Dec. 4-6.

Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 6 p.m. on Sunday in the Katharine Cornell Theatre, 102 Fillmore-Ellicott Academic Complex, North Campus.

Tickets are $20 for general admission and $10 for students from any school and seniors and may be purchased at the door one hour before showtime.

The showcase, directed by associate professor Melanie Aceto, features 10 new works by choreographers Megan Baltar, Hayley Bjorn, Allyson Buttram, Caitlyn Green, Elizabeth Kaltenbach, Sadie Mcnamara, Michaela Neild, Talia Putrino, Jonathan Yepez and Katherine Wawrzaszek.

Through a fusion of styles, the works explore themes including sensory awareness, death and rejoicing in the afterlife, self-discovery, the neck as a symbol of the separation of the body and mind, and a classic jazz dance narrative.

Student lighting designers include Logan Bennet, Alexander Farley, Sinclair Johnson, Suoyang Li, Yeseo Mun, Jordan Rosas and Leo Tozzi.

All productions by the Department of Theatre & Dance during the 2015-16 season are taking inspiration from the UB 2020 theme of justice.
