It’s not too late to sign up for the 26th annual Linda Yalem Safety Run, a 5K run held on the North Campus to promote personal safety and remember UB student Linda Yalem.

The race will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 27 at UB Alumni Arena. Registration is $25 for the general public and $20 for UB students. Registration fees will support rape-prevention and safety awareness programming at UB.

The Yalem run is one of UB’s enduring traditions. Each year, the university welcomes more than 1,200 runners and walkers, and more than 600 volunteers. The race is also an official qualifying race for the Buffalo News Runner of the Year series.

UB head football coach Lance Leipold will serve as the honorary race starter. Runners also will receive a free ticket to watch the UB Bulls face off against the University of Nevada on Saturday, Sept. 26. Additional tickets can be purchased for $10 each.

Post-race events will include food, entertainment and a Kids Dash for children ages 5 to 10.

The Linda Yalem Safety Run honors the memory of Yalem, a UB student who was raped and murdered in September 1990 on the Amherst Bike Path while training for the New York City Marathon.
