After all the votes were counted, UB alum Gary Vider came up just short in “America’s Got Talent.”

The winner, announced last night on NBC, was ventriloquist Paul Zerdin.

Vider, a standup comic, was one of 10 finalists delivering a last performance on Tuesday to garner viewers’ votes.

Vider received a BA in English from UB in 2006, but he knew he always wanted to be a standup comic. In fact, he took an independent study on comedy writing with Andrew Stott, vice provost and dean of undergraduate education.

He told the UB Reporter last week that when he started the audition process for the show, his goal was to make it to the finals.

And regardless of the outcome, he said he was proud of his accomplishments.
