UB will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day by presenting its third annual Women in Sports Symposium on Feb. 11.

The professional development seminar, free for all UB faculty and staff, will take place from 3-6 p.m. in the Millennium Hotel Buffalo, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. It is designed to educate, empower and inspire women in sports and sport-related fields, and targets coaches from all levels, administrators, athletic staff and graduate students interested in careers in athletics. Men are encouraged to attend.

The keynote speaker will be Sandy Barbour, director of athletics at Penn State. Her talk is titled “Journey of a Leader.”

The symposium also will include panel discussions on “The Importance of Mentors to Build a Successful Career” and “Finding your Why,” and a networking reception.

Participants also will receive a voucher for a ticket to a UB women’s regular-season basketball game of their choice.

2015 marks the 25th anniversary of the National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) celebration at UB. NGWSD activities are designed to educate the campus and surrounding communities on the importance of female participation in sports and the impact Title IX has had on female athletic opportunities all over the United States.
