A joint project of UB and Kaleida Health, the CTRC links
clinical care and teaching with research and commercial application
in the health sciences and is one of a handful of such facilities
in the nation.
UB and Kaleida Health have constructed a $291 million,
eight-story facility in downtown Buffalo that will help Western New
York attract top faculty in key health sciences fields while
speeding the translation of research discoveries into improved
treatments for patients. The top four floors of the building house
UB research and development facilities, including UB’s $118
million Clinical and
Translational Research Center (CTRC) and the Jacobs Institute,
which conducts research, development and training in vascular
medicine.
The bottom four floors are home to the Gates Vascular Institute,
Kaleida Health’s $173 million merger of its cardiac, stroke
and vascular operations, and Buffalo General Medical Center's new
emergency care unit.
This project represents a ground-breaking collaboration between
UB and a leading Buffalo teaching hospital. It is a major step in
implementing the recommendations of a state commission on reform of
health care delivery in the region.
