A student team from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences won third place in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Fall 2018 New Drug Update Competition.
Dian Lin, '19, Jennifer Aguilar, '19, and Shahrier Hossain, '19, gave an assessment of the new drug Andexxaâ„¢ (Andexanet Alfa). The assessment included explanation of the drug class, efficacy, most common adverse effects and usual dosage.
With a plethora of new drugs coming out on a consistent basis, the New Drug Update Competition showcases new drug write-ups created by students and provides an opportunity for CV bolstering and residency preparation.
The American Society of Health System Pharmacists represents pharmacists who serve as patient care providers in acute and ambulatory settings. The organization’s nearly 50,000 members include pharmacists, student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. For more than 75 years, ASHP has been at the forefront of efforts to improve medication use and enhance patient safety.
