Kim manages the operations of the Incubator at Baird, with assistance from a solid support team. She is available to answer questions about your space needs at the Incubator @ Baird, questions about financial and human resource administration, as well as how the BEP team can help grow your startup. Kim has been at UB for over 20 years, and has held positions in Technology Transfer, student entrepreneurship and Incubation – providing a solid foundation in startup formation and support. Kim oversees the operational and financial management of the Innovation Hub.
Incubator @ CBLS Operations
Associate Director; NYS Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences (CBLS); UB Center for Advanced Technology in Big Data and Health Sciences (CAT)
Smitha is available to answer questions for Incubator @ CBLS operations, laboratory space, available resources, shared instrumentation, access to molecular biology tools and omics solutions, and matching funds. When she is not spending time at the Center, Smitha is out on the tennis courts and is determined to become serious competition to Serena Williams, once she figures out how to get the tennis ball across the net.
Finance & Operations Manager
Kate is available to answer questions for Incubator @ CBLS operations or facility related questions, such as co-working options, space and lease inquiries, rent or IT payments, event & conference space usage, building access, and more. As a heads up, Kate leaves her water bottle all around the building. Keep a look-out – it’s the largest one available!
Receptionist/Operational Support Assistant
Diane is available to answer questions about the Incubator @ CBLS, specifically operations and facility related questions such as badge access, printer issues, parking, public safety, general maintenance questions or concerns. In addition, Diane is a plant guru (she can save any plant you bring to her), and the self-proclaimed building therapist.
Antoinette (Nina) Johnson
Laboratory Operations Assistant
Nina is available to answer questions for the Incubator @ CBLS or Incubator @ Baird’s lab operations, specifically safety, use of common instruments, and general building operations. Nina enjoys spending time with her husband and two girls and crafting anything she can find. You can easily find her office door, it is themed based on the season or holiday!
Director, Startup Ventures
Rick is available to answer your questions from a startup support perspective, specifically funding, startup programs and services, startup leadership, market assessment, go-to-market planning, product development, manufacturing, and scaling an organization.
Business Formation & Commercialization Manager
Martin is available to answer your questions about startup business operations and strategic planning, grant funding, and investment. He is an interdisciplinary scientist and directs the I-Corps Site Program at the University at Buffalo and routinely helps startup teams with customer discovery.
Startup Client Manager
Dave is available to help define and execute strategies related to talent development/acquisition, customer development, business model development, go-to-market plans, funding, financial modeling and due-diligence preparedness. He brings experience across nearly all roles from his firms that served home services, health IT, education, venture capital, light manufacturing, legal marketing, and nonprofits.
Sara Goodman, MELP
Sara is available to answer questions about early-stage programs and services, such as the I-Corps Site Program and Buffalo Innovation Accelerator Fund. Sara can often be found running through Delaware Park, skiing at Kissing Bridge, or enjoying time in the Adirondacks with her husband and three girls. She is the self-proclaimed office sustainability officer, trying to make the team be a little more green.
Thomas Murdock, MBA
Manager, Incubator Network
Tom looks after the WIN initiative which provides services to incubators across WNY. He is available to answer questions about tax incentives, preparing to approach investors, funding SBIR/STTR grant writers, connections to the broader NYS innovation ecosystem, and various opportunities to access student talent at UB. In addition to his work with incubators, Tom also teaches in UB’s School of Management.
Associate Director, Investor and Entrepreneurial Engagement
UB Incubator at CBLS
Richard is available to answer questions about whether your startup could benefit from a subject matter expert (SME) or Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR). He also helps find and secure these key external experts, and pairs them with startups that can benefit from their guidance. Richard comes to UB with experience in business development and fund raising for early stage, venture backed, and boot-strapped startups.
