State allocates $47 million to Buffalo, Rochester for drug discovery research

An article in Business First reports on the Empire Discovery Institute, a new nonprofit created with $47 million in state funds that will take aim at research by UB, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University at Rochester with the goal of converting scientific breakthroughs into high-tech biomedical companies. The article reports that UB President Satish K. Tripathi and Venu Govindaraju, UB vice president for research and economic development, will serve on the EDI board. A story also appeared on WBEN-AM.
