UB Community: Working Together in Support of Our Mission

Published March 19, 2020

Dear university community:

These are anxious times. With each passing day, we sense the increasing gravity of the unprecedented circumstances we face. We also recognize that, to overcome these challenges, our university community will need to work together, support one another and treat everyone we encounter with dignity, respect and compassion. And our students, faculty and staff are doing just that.

Across the disciplines, our faculty are innovating to ensure that our students meet their academic requirements, and that our research advances.  Across our enterprise, our staff are working with faculty and helping our students acclimate to a distance-learning environment. We are all adjusting to a new—albeit temporary—reality. That we continue to uphold our mission and vision of excellence under such trying circumstances is nothing short of inspiring.

On Monday, March 23rd, the University at Buffalo transitions to a distance-learning model. Admittedly, these are not ideal conditions. But, together, we are pressing forward. And I am so confident in each and every one of you. Thanks to your flexibility and creativity, our students will receive the exceptional education they deserve, our faculty will pursue their transformative research and scholarship, and our staff will excel in their professional pursuits. In this spirit of innovation, UB will continue to have a positive impact on the many communities we serve, near and far.

We all appreciate how challenging this has been—for UB, for our region, for our nation and for our world. But in times of adversity, our great university never fails to demonstrate great resourcefulness, resilience and character.

As always, we are here to support you in your academic, research, scholarly and professional endeavors.

With my heartfelt thanks and my best wishes for your health and well-being,

Satish K. Tripathi
President
