UB startup receives $2.9 million to develop blood test for brain aneurysms

As reported by UB Now and The Buffalo News, Neurovascular Diagnostics was awarded a $2.9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health in Small Business Innovation Research funds. Over the next three years, the grant will support the company's research on a blood test called AneuScreen, which could be a more cost-effective and easier way to screen for and detect unruptured intracranial aneurysms.

The company was co-founded in 2016 by Vincent Tutino, assistant professor of pathology and anatomical sciences at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and Hui Meng, distinguished professor in UB’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Meng serves as the company’s chief scientific officer.

In the last several years, Neurovascular Diagnostics has received an additional NIH grant, as well as two National Science Foundation grants and funding from UB’s Center for Advanced Technology in Big Data and Health Sciences program.
