WNY container farming LED lighting companies team up with UB on AI solutions for plant health

The Buffalo News reports that UB artificial intelligence researchers are helping two local companies—Ellicottville Greens and StarCo—develop an AI system that monitors the health of crops growing indoors. The idea is the brainchild of UB grad Muk Musleh, who is working with Jinjun Xiong, SUNY Empire Innovation Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. 

“I’m most interested in research that is part of developing solutions that are meaningful to solve societal challenges,” Xiong said. “And this one is trying to solve the problem of food shortage.”
