NAVIGATE Retreat

Sept. 12-15, 2019 | Beaver Hollow Conference Center | Java, NY

This free, three-day professional development conference at Beaver Hollow Conference Center will feature invited speakers on topics that pertain to gender bias, inequity and discrimination in STEM fields. Cases studies, designed to grow the participant's abilities to overcome gender-related career obstacles, will be presented.

(about 1 hour drive from UB)

Transportation to and from Beaver Hollow will be provided using UB’s Stampede Buses. Buses will take participants to the retreat, which will take place between 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 12 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 15. Please note that you will need to miss classes on Friday.

Who can Attend:

Attendance at this retreat is required for all UB graduate women in STEM fields who are enrolled in NSF’s NAVIGATE Project. (Learn more or apply here.)

Cost of Attendance:

All meals and accommodations will be provided at no cost to UB graduate women enrolled in NSF’s NAVIGATE Project.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The NAVIGATE Project will cover the following topics during the course of the 3-day retreat and 1-day workshop events.

  • Communicating your impacts
  • Managing conflict
  • Managing your manager
  • Becoming a change agent in your organization
  • Cultivating resilience in the face of adversity
  • Forming alliances with other women
  • Organizing with other women across difference (in race, sexuality, class, ability status)
  • Respectful confrontations
  • Working smarter, not harder
  • Negotiating employment conditions
