Research Background

  • Some of the poorest & most racially segregated cities in the nation are in the northeast (Massey & Denton, 1993);
  • Study region is in the northeast & has resettled high percentage of refugees by comparison to other similarly situated regions
  • Study region settles 1/3 of those, & also has assisted many Hurricane Maria displaced arrivals
  • Study city has a child poverty rates over 50%, with those highest among children of color
