SUNY’s Exploring Emerging Technologies for Lifelong Learning and Success (#EmTech) is a free online learning opportunity targeted to college students, faculty, current and career-seeking professionals, and anyone who wants to effectively use technology in today’s rapidly changing world. Through this ELN project, you will develop sought-after career competencies, enhance #EmTech's online visibility, and foster expertise in areas such as interface design, web development, technology proficiency, and collaborative professionalism.

Project description

The State University of New York (SUNY) Exploring Emerging Technologies for Lifelong Learning and Success (#EmTech) <http://suny.edu/emtech> teaches faculty, college students, and others from across the globe about the value and implications of using emerging technologies.

EmTech is a freely accessible online learning opportunity tailored to current professionals, those pursuing careers, and anyone interested in effectively utilizing technology in today’s rapidly changing environment. Participants build strategies to become independent, lifelong learners, through hands-on opportunities to experiment with technology tools and resources to showcase 21st-century skills. EmTech’s goal is to transform knowledge consumers into knowledge creators and curators.

This ELN project seeks individuals to develop sought-after career competencies while enhancing #EmTech's online visibility. Through this experience, you will develop expertise in areas such as interface design, web development, technology proficiency, and collaborative professionalism.

Project outcome

The person who takes on this project will help to develop an improved #EmTech web presence. In the process, they will develop skills to enable them to achieve outcomes similar to those gained by participants who enroll in SUNY #EmTech as listed below.

Digital & Media Literacy Objectives

  • Build lifelong learning habits and a growth mindset.
  • Use emerging technology tools and resources to build 21st-century skills.
  • Evaluate the quality of established and emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrate media literacy by effectively using media creation tools.
  • Practice safe and secure practices in digital environments.
  • Evaluate information to identify truthful and unbiased points of view.
  • Apply Creative Commons guidelines to ethically use text and media.
  • Apply accessibility principles and strategies to achieve digital equity.

Analyze your digital footprint to portray a professional online identity.
The individual contributing to improving this initiative will have the opportunity to showcase their work through a poster or presentation at an academic conference (with provided travel funding). Additionally, there will be opportunities for collaboration as a co-author on education research publications

Preparation activities

Once you begin the digital badge series, you will have access to all the necessary activities and instructions. Your mentor has indicated they would like you to also complete the specific preparation activities below. Please reference this when you get to Step 2 of the Preparation Phase. 

  • Meet with the SUNY #EmTech Director to draft a plan of action to deploy the current website onto the new SUNYCreate platform.
  • Familiarize oneself with the processes required for participants who enroll in EmTech.
  • Participate in relevant training relating to website development.
  • Other activities as needed.
