Advancing research discoveries to improve health for all
Recently with the increase in next generation sequencing, there is a growing number of experiments designed to study the microbiome. Researchers need a clear understanding of the statistical concepts required for the design, execution and interpretation of microbiome experiments. We will discuss taxonomic classification of bacterial sequences into organizational taxonomic units (OTUs). Then we will discuss the statistical tests designed to assess abundance differences for OTUs across conditions. Lastly, this talk discusses the concepts of alpha and beta diversity across bacterial populations and provides visualization techniques for diversity metrics.
