When you join SSS

You will connect with an SSS advisor who will help you chart your academic and professional goals, overcome obstacles and face challenges head-on. SSS students have access to a variety of academic, personal and cultural resources that help them grow as students and individuals. And as an added benefit, all of the services are provided free of charge. They include:

  • Academic support.
  • Personal development advising.
  • Financial literacy advising.
  • Career development.
  • Workshops on academic, career and personal topics.
  • Cultural events such as: cultural and historical sites in and around UB, Buffalo, and Western New York, dance performances, theatre, concerts, museums and sporting events to name a few with fellow SSS students.
  • Preparation for graduate and professional school, including help with researching your options, writing your personal statement, obtaining letters of recommendation, support for visiting graduate and professional schools in other cities, and loaning you test preparation materials (for such tests as the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, PCAT, etc.).
  • Tutoring through Tutoring and Academic and Support Services.
  • Alignment with other university student and academic support services.
  • A smaller academic and support environment.

All SSS students are asked to:

Meet with their SSS adviser at least two times per semester either in-person, by phone, or virtually.

And attend at least one SSS workshop, cultural event, or complete an online SSS On-Demand module per semester.
