The Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis & Culture is a hub of intellectual activity in the humanities at UB, focusing on psychoanalysis in its broadest conceptual, ethical, and political ramifications. The oldest and most prestigious center of its kind in North America, the Center does not offer degrees or certificates; instead, it coordinates graduate seminars, intellectual programming, working groups, and publications. A site for psychoanalytic thinking as it engages other academic disciplines and ways of knowing, the Center is a home for theory in the widest sense. It fosters conversation among diverse psychoanalytic traditions, and in recent years the Center has staged dialogues between psychoanalysis and queer theory, object-oriented ontology, disability theory, and neuro-cognitivism, focusing broadly on questions of mind, embodiment, subjectivity, and sexuality.
